CVSS v3.1 |
A stack-based buffer overflow flaw was found in the X.Org X server and Xwayland. _XkbSetMapChecks() declares a fixed-size stack buffer mapWidths[256] indexed by key type index. The helper function CheckKeyTypes() writes to this buffer at a client-controlled offset, allowing a stack buffer overflow. This may be used to crash the server, or for privilege escalation if the X server runs as root.
A stack-based buffer overflow flaw was found in the X.Org X server and Xwayland. A mismatch between the X server and the libXfont2 library's maximum font name length can cause a stack buffer overflow during font alias resolution. The server allocates a 256 byte stack buffer but libXfont2's alias target name length is 1024 bytes. A font alias name between 257 and 1023 bytes causes the X server to copy that name into the undersized stack buffer without further checks. This may be used to crash the server, or for privilege escalation if the X server runs as root.
A flaw was found in libsolv. A stack-based buffer overflow vulnerability exists in the PGP verification component due to incorrect length handling when copying EdDSA 's' MPI into a stack buffer. A remote attacker could craft a malicious Ed25519 PGP signature with mismatched MPI lengths. Processing this crafted signature could lead to a denial of service in automated package or repository processing workflows.
A flaw was found in libsoup. This stack-based buffer overflow vulnerability occurs during the parsing of multipart HTTP responses due to an incorrect length calculation. A remote attacker can exploit this by sending a specially crafted multipart HTTP response, which can lead to memory corruption. This issue may result in application crashes or arbitrary code execution in applications that process untrusted server responses, and it does not require authentication or user interaction.
A flaw was found in GIMP. The PSD plug-in’s image resource header loader uses an incorrect destination size when copying a converted resource name into a fixed stack buffer. Opening a crafted PSD file can cause a stack-based buffer overflow, leading to a crash and potentially arbitrary code execution.
A stack buffer overflow flaw was found in 389 Directory Server (389-ds-base). The get_ruvelement_from_berval() function in repl5_ruv.c copies digit characters from a network-supplied RUV berval into a fixed 16-byte stack buffer without bounds checking. A remote unauthenticated attacker can crash the LDAP server by sending a crafted StartNSDS50ReplicationRequest extended operation containing a replica ID field with more than 16 digit characters. The overflow occurs during payload decoding, before any authorization check. Stack protectors limit impact to denial of service.
A flaw was identified in the NTLM authentication handling of the libsoup HTTP library, used by GNOME and other applications for network communication. When processing extremely long passwords, an internal size calculation can overflow due to improper use of signed integers. This results in incorrect memory allocation on the stack, followed by unsafe memory copying. As a result, applications using libsoup may crash unexpectedly, creating a denial-of-service risk.
A flaw was found in GIMP. The GIMP ani_load_image() function is vulnerable to a stack-based overflow. If a user opens.ANI files, GIMP may be used to store more information than the capacity allows. This flaw allows a malicious ANI file to trigger arbitrary code execution.
A buffer overflow flaw was found in X.Org and Xwayland. The code in XkbVModMaskText() allocates a fixed-sized buffer on the stack and copies the names of the virtual modifiers to that buffer. The code fails to check the bounds of the buffer and would copy the data regardless of the size.
A stack-based buffer overflow vulnerability in the Fireware OS certd process allows an authenticated attacker with access to the Firebox management interface to crash the certificate management service and potentially execute arbitrary code by sending a specially crafted request.
A stack-based buffer overflow vulnerability in Fireware OS's VPN Network Access Enforcement process allows an authenticated mobile VPN user to create a denial of service condition and potentially execute arbitrary code as an unprivileged process by sending a specially crafted request.
A stack-based buffer overflow vulnerability exists in the web management interface of affected Moxa wireless device servers. An authenticated remote attacker with low privileges could exploit insufficient bounds checking of user-supplied input, causing the web management service to become unresponsive. Restoring the service requires power cycling the affected device, while other device functions remain operational.
A stack-based buffer overflow vulnerability in Fireware OS's WireGuard configuration processing allows a remote attacker that has man-in-the-middle TLS-decrypted access between the Firebox and WatchGuard Cloud to create a Denial of Service condition and potentially execute arbitrary code by tampering with a FireCloud Gateway configuration payload.
ESP-IDF is the Espressif Internet of Things (IOT) Development Framework. From 5.2.0 until 5.2.8, 5.3.6, 5.4.5, 5.5.5, and 6.0.3, the OpenThread Border Router Neighbor Discovery packet handler trusts an attacker-controlled ICMPv6 option length while copying into a fixed stack buffer. A host on the same infrastructure link as the Border Router can send a crafted ICMPv6 Router Advertisement to its infrastructure interface whose oversized length causes an out-of-bounds write into adjacent stack memory. Firmware is affected only when CONFIG_OPENTHREAD_BORDER_ROUTER=y; Thread end devices, routers, and RCP firmware without the Border Router feature are unaffected. Exploitation requires no authentication or user interaction and can crash or reboot the device or corrupt adjacent stack state. This issue is fixed in versions 5.2.8, 5.3.6, 5.5.5, and 6.0.3 and is scheduled to be fixed in version 5.4.5.
ESP-IDF is the Espressif Internet of Things (IOT) Development Framework. From 5.2.3 until 5.3.7, 5.4.5, 5.5.6, and 6.0.3, the lwIP DNS resolver's cached-lookup path in dns_lookup() in dns.c copies every cached address into a caller-provided single ip_addr_t output buffer without a length parameter or bounds check. When CONFIG_LWIP_DNS_MAX_HOST_IP is greater than 1 and a cached hostname has multiple A or AAAA records, a subsequent lookup through dns_gethostbyname() or dns_gethostbyname_addrtype() writes beyond the single-element buffer into adjacent stack memory. A network-positioned attacker who influences DNS responses can cause a reboot through stack-canary corruption or, without stack protection, overwrite stack variables with attacker-controlled address bytes and potentially redirect control flow. This issue is fixed in versions 5.5.6 and 6.0.3 and is scheduled to be fixed in versions 5.3.7 and 5.4.5. No fixed release is available for the end-of-life 5.2 line.
A stack-based buffer overflow in libsnowflakeclient and the Snowflake PHP PDO Driver could, under specific conditions, result in memory corruption during SAML-based authentication. During a native SSO/SAML login flow, the affected drivers may have copied a value taken from the identity provider's HTML response into a fixed-size memory buffer without first validating the length of that value. An attacker who controlled or had compromised the configured identity provider — or who was able to redirect the SAML single sign-on endpoint to an attacker-controlled server — might have leveraged this by returning an oversized response, potentially resulting in a crash or, in specific circumstances, remote code execution within the context of the application running the library. The fix is available in libsnowflakeclient version 2.11.1 and Snowflake PHP PDO Driver version 4.3.0. Users must manually upgrade.
A security vulnerability has been detected in TOTOLINK A950RG 4.1.2cu.5268_B20221104. This impacts the function strcpy of the file /cgi-bin/cstecgi.cgi of the component Basic Wireless Configuration Handler. The manipulation of the argument wepkey leads to stack-based buffer overflow. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. The exploit has been disclosed publicly and may be used.
