CVSS v3.1 |
| The broker-side PushTelemetry API (KIP-714) validates only the compressed size of a client's metrics payload against telemetry.max.bytes (default 1 MB) before decompressing it. ClientTelemetryUtils.decompress() then decompresses the payload with no limit on the decompressed output size, growing a heap buffer until the compressed input is exhausted. A small, highly compressible payload (for example gzip-compressed zeros) can therefore expand to hundreds of megabytes of broker heap.
Impact:
An authenticated client can send a PushTelemetry request with a small compressed payload that decompresses to a very large size, consuming broker heap out of proportion to the request size. Repeated or concurrent requests can exhaust the broker heap and cause an OutOfMemoryError, degrading or crashing the broker; a client that targets multiple brokers can affect cluster availability. PushTelemetry is available to any authenticated client and is not gated by an ACL.
Mitigation:
Upgrade to Apache Kafka 4.2.2, 4.3.1, or 4.4.0. On affected versions there is no configuration that fully prevents the amplification, because telemetry.max.bytes bounds only the compressed size; lowering telemetry.max.bytes reduces the worst-case decompressed size proportionally and is a partial mitigation.
Resolution:
- From Apache Kafka 4.2.2, 4.3.1, and 4.4.0: ClientTelemetryUtils.decompress() enforces a maximum decompressed size equal to telemetry.max.bytes (default 1 MB). Decompression reads in bounded chunks and aborts with a TelemetryTooLargeException once the decompressed total exceeds the limit, so an over-large or highly compressible payload is rejected instead of being fully expanded in heap. The decompressed size is therefore bounded by default. |
| Apache Kafka Connect contains an authentication bypass vulnerability affecting the admin REST API when admin.listeners is configured with a separate listener from the main listeners property.
When operators isolate the admin REST API by explicitly configuring the "admin.listeners" property, REST extensions specified via rest.extension.classes (such as BasicAuthSecurityRestExtension) are not registered or applied to the admin resource configuration.
While the primary REST API listener (configured via listeners) enforces configured authentication and authorization filters, endpoints mounted under the separate admin listener (/admin/loggers) fail to inherit or instantiate these extension filters. As a result, the admin logger endpoint accepts unauthenticated read and write requests even when security extensions are active on the main listener.
Impact:
An unauthenticated attacker with network access to the admin listener can:
1. Read the complete set of logger names and levels, disclosing loaded class names and which security extensions are in use.
2. Write logger levels, including with scope=cluster which propagates the change to all workers in the Connect cluster. This can be used to suppress
logging (setting root to OFF) or generate excessive log output (setting root to TRACE), potentially impacting availability and observability.
Mitigation:
Users who cannot upgrade immediately can remove the admin.listeners configuration (or leave it unset). When unset, admin resources share the regular listener and inherit its security extensions.
Resolution:
From Apache Kafka 4.2.2, 4.3.2, and 4.4.0, we make sure the REST extensions specified via "rest.extension.classes" will also apply to "admin.listeners". |
| XML External Entity (XXE) Injection in ContentWorker in Apache OFBiz 24.09 before 24.09.08 on all platforms allows a remote authenticated attacker holding content-author permission to read arbitrary server files and trigger server-side request forgery by storing a crafted text/xml DataResource containing an external entity declaration, causing ContentWorker's rendering of that content — via renderContentAsText and related CMS/help render paths — to parse the stored XML using FreeMarker's default NodeModel.parse DocumentBuilderFactory, which enables neither FEATURE_SECURE_PROCESSING nor external-entity/DTD restrictions, resolving the external entity and returning its content in the rendered response. Users are recommended to upgrade to version 24.09.08, which fixes this issue. |
| Incorrect authorization due to a time-of-check to time-of-use (TOCTOU) race condition in the setACL request handling of Apache ZooKeeper.
When a node's ACL is changed via setACL, the pending change is not published to the server's outstanding change record for that node. Any request that is prepared (and authorized) after the setACL is submitted but before it commits is therefore checked against the previous, pre-revocation ACL, yet is applied to the data tree after the ACL change has taken effect. A client that currently holds a permission can use this window to perform operations requiring that permission through and after its revocation — for example, committing writes or deletes after losing write access, or re-granting itself full permissions, which persistently defeats the revocation. In deployments transitioning from the default OPEN_ACL_UNSAFE ACL to a restrictive ACL, any unauthenticated client can exploit this during the transition.
This issue affects Apache ZooKeeper up to and including 3.9.6. Users are recommended to upgrade to version 3.8.8 or 3.9.7, which fixes the issue. |
| Incorrect authorization in RequestHandler in Apache OFBiz 24.09 before 24.09.08 on all platforms allows a remote unauthenticated attacker to bypass the authentication requirement of a protected view by appending it as a path suffix to a public request (e.g., /catalog/control/ListLocales/showPortalPage), causing the servlet to authorize the request based on the public path component while rendering the protected suffix view. Users are recommended to upgrade to version 24.09.08, which fixes this issue. |
| Improper Neutralization of Special Elements Used in a Template Engine ('Server-Side Template Injection') in MacroScreenRenderer in Apache OFBiz 24.09 before 24.09.08 on all platforms allows a remote authenticated attacker holding only the two view permissions of a control-servlet webapp (e.g. CATALOG_VIEW and OFBTOOLS_VIEW on /catalog, held by OFBiz's own shipped order-entry clerk role) to execute arbitrary operating system commands as the OFBiz service account with a single GET request, by placing an apostrophe followed by FreeMarker expression source in a screen link parameter value, because renderLink concatenates link parameter values verbatim between apostrophes into an unquoted, unescaped template-source string that is compiled and evaluated at render time, allowing the injected expression to reach the allow-listed FlexibleStringExpander.expandString call and, through a runtime-assembled Groovy interpolation, unsandboxed code execution. Users are recommended to upgrade to version 24.09.08, which fixes this issue. |
| Authentication Bypass by Capture-replay in ExternalLoginKeysManager in Apache OFBiz 24.09 before 24.09.08 on all platforms allows a remote unauthenticated attacker who captures a live externalLoginKey value to obtain a complete, cookie-free, reusable session as the user who issued it, in every webapp that user can reach, because checkExternalLoginKey runs as a global preprocessor ahead of both the CSRF and authentication checks and accepts the key as a bearer credential that is never bound to a client, never expires, and is not invalidated after use, while the framework itself both appends live keys to every cross-webapp link it renders and, via WidgetWorker's unvalidated inter-app link target, lets an authenticated user's key be attached to an attacker-chosen absolute URL and delivered directly to the attacker's own server. Users are recommended to upgrade to version 24.09.08, which fixes this issue. |
| Several Kafka deserialization paths read a size or count field from input data and use it directly to allocate an array, collection, or byte buffer, with no check against the bytes actually available. A small crafted input can therefore declare a very large size and force a multi-gigabyte allocation. The affected paths are, in Kafka Streams, ProcessorRecordContext (header count), ChangedDeserializer (varint value length), CombinedKeySchema (foreign-key length, which could also produce a negative size), ProcessorMetadata (key length), and AssignmentInfo group-assignment decoding; and, in the clients library, ListDeserializer (used by ListSerde).
Impact:
An attacker can trigger the oversized allocation and raise an OutOfMemoryError that crashes the affected consumer or Kafka Streams thread; the broker and the rest of the cluster are unaffected. The reachable surface depends on the path: writing a crafted record to a Streams application's internal changelog or repartition topics, or committing crafted offset metadata to its consumer group (Streams internal paths); writing a crafted record to any topic that a consumer reads with ListSerde (ListDeserializer); or, as a member of a Streams consumer group, returning crafted assignment data when elected leader (AssignmentInfo). Because a crafted record remains in its topic, the error can recur on restart. The record size limit (max.message.bytes) does not help, because the allocation is driven by a size field rather than by the input's length.
Mitigation:
Upgrade to Apache Kafka 4.2.2, 4.3.2, or 4.4.0. Where authorization is enabled, restrict write access to each application's internal topics and consumer group to its own principal, and restrict who can produce to topics that are consumed with ListSerde.
Resolution:
From Apache Kafka 4.2.2, 4.3.2, and 4.4.0: these deserialization paths validate the declared size against the remaining input before allocating and reject input that fails the check. |
| Authorization Bypass Through User-Controlled Key in Order Returns in Apache OFBiz 24.09 before 24.09.08 on all platforms allows an authenticated user with low-privileged Order Manager access to associate another party's OrderItem with a ReturnItem on a ReturnHeader they control, via the createReturnItem service. Users are recommended to upgrade to version 24.09.08, which fixes this issue. |
| Direct Request ('Forced Browsing') in the Content Manager component in Apache OFBiz 24.09.07 on all platforms allows an authenticated user holding only view-only content permissions (OFBTOOLS_VIEW and CONTENTMGR_VIEW) to re-parent content associations they do not own or manage via a direct POST request to the moveContentJson endpoint, which performs no permission check, unlike the equivalent updateContent/createContentAssoc/removeContentAssoc services that require genericContentPermission UPDATE. Users are recommended to upgrade to version 24.09.08, which fixes this issue. |
| External Control of File Name or Path vulnerability in the ViewFile component of Label Manager in Apache OFBiz 24.09.07 on all platforms allows an authenticated user holding only the LABEL_MANAGER_VIEW permission to read arbitrary properties and xml files on the server, including the generated JWT signing key, enabling forgery of an authenticated administrator session, via the fileName parameter of a ViewFile request.
Users are recommended to upgrade to version 24.09.08, which fixes this issue. |
| Missing Authorization in XmlDsDump in Apache OFBiz 24.09 before 24.09.08 on all platforms allows a remote authenticated attacker holding only the webtools base permissions (OFBTOOLS_VIEW, WEBTOOLS_VIEW) — explicitly not the ENTITY_MAINT permission the export feature declares and visibly refuses to render for — to export the contents of any database entity, including UserLogin with its currentPassword hashes, to any filesystem path the OFBiz process can write, including a web-served docroot, and to create arbitrary directories or truncate arbitrary existing files at those paths, because the XmlDsDump screen action writes the requested entity data via new FileOutputStream on unvalidated outpath and filename request parameters before the screen's ENTITY_MAINT permission check runs, unlike the equivalent Java service entityExportAll, which enforces both a permission check and a file-path allow-list. Users are recommended to upgrade to version 24.09.08, which fixes this issue. |
| Improper Neutralization of Special Elements Used in an Expression Language Statement ('Expression Language Injection') in EmailServices in Apache OFBiz 24.09 before 24.09.08 on all platforms allows a remote authenticated attacker holding only OFBTOOLS_VIEW and ACCOUNTING_VIEW, the two view-level permissions that open the Accounting application, to execute arbitrary operating system commands as the account running OFBiz, by submitting a ${groovy:...} expression as the bodyText or subject value to the shipped Send Per Email invoice form, because sendMailFromScreen passes those caller-supplied values through FlexibleStringExpander.expandString, which compiles and evaluates embedded Groovy on a class loader that carries none of the SecureASTCustomizer restrictions GroovyUtil.eval applies elsewhere, behind a service and request-map that declare no permission check beyond base authentication. Users are recommended to upgrade to version 24.09.08, which fixes this issue. |
| Incorrect Authorization in ContentPermissionServices in Apache OFBiz 24.09 before 24.09.08 on all platforms allows a remote authenticated attacker holding only a limited content-create permission to self-grant the OWNER role on arbitrary content by invoking the createContentRole service (e.g. via the createForumGroupRole request), causing the permission check to fall through to a fail-open default-grant branch when no ContentPurposeOperation entry matches the requested operation and content purpose, rather than denying the request. A self-granted OWNER role then satisfies the ownership check used to authorize update, removal, and status changes on that content, giving the attacker full read/write/delete control over content they should not have access to. Users are recommended to upgrade to version 24.09.08, which fixes this issue. |
| Missing authorization check in the getHRChild service in Apache OFBiz through 24.09.07 on all platforms allows a remote unauthenticated attacker to recursively enumerate Human Resources organization and employee data, including department names and identifiers, employment position names and identifiers, employee party identifiers, position occupancy, and organization relationships, via a crafted partyId parameter. Users are recommended to upgrade to version 24.09.08, which fixes this issue. |
| A JNDI Injection vulnerability has been discovered in Apache CXF's JCA integration module, which can allow for code execution, if an attacker is able to manipulate the JCA deployment descriptor (ra.xml) or runtime activation parameters. Users are recommended to upgrade to versions 4.2.2 or 4.1.7 or 3.6.12, which fixes this issue. |
| A logic error in OAuthRequestFilter rejects legitimate requests originating from the bound IP address, while blindly allowing requests from any other IP address. Enabling this
security feature inadvertently creates an inverse security check. Users are recommended to upgrade to versions 4.2.2 or 4.1.7 or 3.6.12, which fixes this issue. |
| Incorrect Authorization in Apache OFBiz
24.09 before 24.09.08 on all platforms, when documented multitenancy is
enabled, allows a remote authenticated attacker holding only a valid
low-privilege account in one tenant to read and write data belonging to a
different tenant, by submitting their own tenant's userTenantId
alongside their own credentials to the normal Party Manager login
against a hostname mapped to a different tenant: ContextFilter resolves
the tenant from the hostname via TenantDomainName, but LoginWorker gives
priority to the conflicting userTenantId request parameter and
authenticates against the attacker's own tenant, so a subsequent
ordinary request to the same hostname combines the hostname-mapped
tenant's Entity Engine delegator with the attacker's tenant's session
dispatcher, security object, and identity, letting the permission check
run against the attacker's own tenant while the resulting read or write
is performed against the hostname-mapped tenant's data. Users are
recommended to upgrade to version 24.09.08, which fixes this issue. |
| Incorrect Authorization in the updateLayout simple-method in applications/content/minilang/layout/LayoutEvents.xml in Apache OFBiz 24.09 before 24.09.08 on all platforms allows a remote authenticated attacker holding only OFBTOOLS_VIEW and CONTENTMGR_VIEW to execute arbitrary commands as the OFBiz process user, by using updateLayout's authorization check — which validates only the fixed CONTENT_CREATE operation rather than an update permission on the actual Content record and an independently selected DataResource — to relink an existing RESPONSE-purpose Content record and convert an arbitrary, independently selected DataResource into an OFBIZ_FILE/FTL resource pointed at the OFBiz access log, poisoned via a crafted User-Agent header and evaluated through the normal authenticated showContent route. Users are recommended to upgrade to version 24.09.08, which fixes this issue. |
| Improper Control of Generation of Code ('Code Injection') in ModelFormField in the Apache OFBiz cms plugin before 24.09.08 on all platforms allows a remote authenticated attacker holding only CMS content-editor access to execute arbitrary operating system commands as the OFBiz process user via a single HTTP POST request, by submitting a crafted caContentIdTo parameter to EditAddContent, because the CMS screen copies that parameter into a top-level context variable that is interpolated into a form field's use-when attribute and the resulting string is passed unvalidated to GroovyUtil.eval(), whose compile-time SecureASTCustomizer sandbox does not restrict runtime reflection, allowing a payload that closes the expanded string literal and invokes java.lang.Runtime via reflection. Users are recommended to upgrade to version 24.09.08, which fixes this issue. |
